CHALLENGE
St. Charles Public Library District (SCPLD) had just completed a renovation to their physical space. They were looking to update their digital presence to match, while upgrading their website’s information architecture to address user needs and frustrations.
SOLUTION
Since the site launch, library staff reported a significant decrease in phone calls from patrons struggling to use the website. Going forward, the library team will be able to scale the site with new offerings because of the modular approach and easy-to-edit backend.

INCLUSIVE INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
Because the website needed a visual and UX redesign, it was important to start with a comprehensive discovery approach. We collaborated in group discussions, captured UX changes and suggestions within spreadsheets, and iterated quickly with wireframes. This helped us understand what content needed to stay, and what content needed to be reconsidered, added, or removed.
COLOR-CODED VISUAL AIDS
We extended the color palette to authentically represent the library’s interior redesign. Our color options also helped users find what they wanted quicker as they formed associations with each category.
USING MODULAR BLOCKS
We built the site with a modular component approach and easy-to-edit backend. This helped us empower the SCPLD team to keep their users updated on upcoming events and the addition of new resources, databases, services, or collections.
A MOBILE DIGITAL HUB
Knowing users would reference the website on the go, and as they browse for content at the library, we ensured both desktop and mobile experiences were optimized to find resources quickly.
